PIANO PUSH PLAY SOCIAL VIDS

DESIGN & GRAPHICS

PROJECT SCOPE:

“Used to be editors would just deliver 1920×1080 or 3840x2160px to youtoo-vimeotube? and call it golden.”
-Christopher Nolan Never Once Said That

Thanks to phones in non-peripheral portrait mode, we literally have to expand our dreams and collapse our horizons to accommodate content for all resolutions.

Our client runs a non-profit that commission’s illustrators & artists to reclaim & reimagine pianos previously on their way to a landfill. Each year the task at hand is to capture footage of dumbfounded folks stumbling in awe onto a fully working & tuned pianos -albeit outside in the wild usually; then there are piano-chasers that arrive like tornados, furiously riffling through backpacks of sheet music for List, Chopin, Chorea, Monk, Ellington; and of course performances all summer long in the parks. The problem though, is the deluge of riches. Harnessing this collateral (the riches) is crucial for maintaining social media presence, brand awareness, & identity.

Call to action videos, center cut & cropped (Christopher Nolan said it’s cool), over simple, non-linear, motion graphics with clearly defined messaging seem to be a turnkey way to let no footage go to waste! Politely tell the good folks to Donate, add a ferris wheel of iconic pianos to the mix, just to be certain the seats are filled, & then it’s standing room only come festival kick-off. Seriously the kickoff is huge, it spills into the streets, watch out! Alas, go getem’ tiger!

PROCESS & PROCEDURE:

Grab a blanket, head to the park, lay on the grass, enjoy the sun, setup a low profile tripod, wait about 11 minutes and then someone will ride by, upside down on a skateboard – be sure to hit record in time. All summ… you know.

ACCOLADES:

High praise & hi-fives from OPB’s Oregon Arts Watch & and TOL whom reference some of these moments captured on camera. Highest of gratitude goes to Grammy winning artist Esperanza Spalding who gave an on camera wink to the cameraman during the 10 year anniversary performance.

Further Discussion:

Be sure to ask politely the museum staff for unfettered access to the upper roof looking on down a plaza of 20 pianos being played by 40ish hands, 20ish or less, maybe, songs heard simultaneously bathed in urban reverb.
